this is one of the top issues i see on reddit - 'not enough time' or 'if i had enough time i would be famous / really good' - but, alas i don't.

personally i don't like this type of thinking because it can be defeatist. you're setting yourself up to fail by painting yourself in a box and limiting your dreams with what you perceive to be reality.

i strongly believe we get EXACTLY what we want in this life. so if you're in a position where you can't work on you music - maybe somewhere deep down you're comfortable with this because you never have to really prove yourself / or set yourself up to possibly fail? i've been there.

i wasn't born with money or anything. i was homeless for awhile sleeping in elevator shafts in NYC and stealing free refills when people left the cups at barnes & nobles.

later i worked a lot of shit jobs, and finally after teaching myself some skills a regular 8-7 job on wall street and i felt the same trapped feeling many people have... if only i had xxx amount of money, or if only i had real time to focus on my art (my art back then was painting)..

i took the chance and quite the job and started freelancing for companies and built it (slowly) into a real company - that allows me to work from anyplace i want. hardly wealthy - but having employees allows me some additional time to pursue other interests like music, writing, illustration etc.

there's no magic to it, just a lot of hard work and willing to take the pay cut and instability to try something new - with the hopes that it will eventually free you up to do more of what you enjoy - be it art, or travel, or just sleeping.

my point is - if you feel trapped - it's because you've trapped yourself.
