The 10 Biggest Lies In Audio

I can only state factual information about the situation. You shouldn't trust a blind man who reviews paintings, especially not when his vision returns when he decides he wants to paint and sell his art too.

The cable lie section is correct for the most part, but most Grado owners know not to recable with a Silver cable due to excessive treble tendency. Electrical efficiency is a topic Peter doesn't seem to know much about. I don't believe any cable should cost more than $30. But, if you buy some long Monoprice cables and hook them up to your Rokits, you'll notice a ton of hiss and static. Cable length, shielding and proper assembly is 99.9% the same in a $30 cable as it is in $500 cables. THOSE are rip offs. I can't take the article seriously when it does't differentiate and basically implies you can go to the gas station and buy the .99c interconnect and hook up your Magnepans with it. Try it. Peter didn't, but you should. The tube section is utter nonsense and is just his questioning the usage of tubes. His core idea is correct and most agree with it, I do. However, Peter doesn't know if it is imaginary or if it is just preset sound from the manufacturer. Once again, Peter can't hear it. This entire section is just his opinion and not based on factual information in the slightest. Not one bit. Zero factual evidence provided. The antidigital lie section is proof that Peter has never been in a recording studio and once again cannot hear the more aired out qualities and more intimate setups in older recordings in vinyl. This is why modern listeners still use vinyl and why guys like me who enjoy sound stage are pissed off at digital editors who do not record live. Peter is right and wrong here and again, does not differentiate anything at all, instead ranting aimlessly on the subject without any proof to the contrary. This isn't debatable, pre-digital era recordings had much better presentations with more dynamics, due to microphone rigging. It is rare for a modern album to sound like most vinyl for that reason. So again, Peter isn't correct. So far, he is down for 0/3. The listening test lie is 100% subjective but I fully agree with it, my family and friend who aren't audio enthusiasts just dont hear what we do, they dont really listen. In one ear and out the other, which is why they often will just say everything sounds great, when I am thinking jeez that bass sounds awful or the treble is painful. Can't trust that sort of testing unless you can trust the subject. 1/10 Score for Peter so far. The Feedback lie is 100% spot on, 2/10. The Biwire section is also true, I hate when speaker people tell me that nonsense. 3/10 so far. The power conditioner area is a half truth and peter even agrees to that factoid. Some do it right, some don't, so why the hell would you even mention it, products need to advertise that they do something well. Derp. 3.5/10 so far for peters accuracy. The CD treatment area is totally true, but I've never once heard of anyone having this type of a problem, in fact a google search resulted in so few posts about this issue that i cannot consider it an issue. Peter gets a pass on this, but its really a non issue and shouldn't be considered something to even debate. 4.5/10. The Golden ear section is also fully true, although nobody can say for sure if that other person really has better hearing than you. So, Peter gets another half point for using his opinion as fact. Although, I agree with him fully on the guys who say they are golden ear certified. Peter literally disproved himself in the Burn In area by saying its real in the last sentence of that area. At the end of it, Peter scored a 50% fact rating and failed to produce any useful information for half of his article.

livedadevil, I'm dense because I read the article and most others didnt. Peter tossed a lot of useful information that is factual and can be proven, but also a ton of opinion that cannot be proven that for some damned reason a lot of audio users just accept as fact. Blows my mind really and I feel like I am one of so few who read his works to know better.
