10 years after the recession: did the recession change the way you shop?

Yes, it definitely changed everything for me. I was in college at the time and had to take on some pretty toxic high interest loans in order to finish bachelors. Graduating, I had to work two jobs in order to just make the minimum payments with maybe 100 bucks left over every month, if I scraped. That went on for 5 years before I gave up on my field, went back to school, and found a higher paying job.

I still struggle to prioritize my needs - especially things as "frivolous" as clothes. There's always been something else that needed the money. Now, I've got more like 2k left over every month and I'm finally allowing myself to buy new clothes more often. Though I still have those loans and do still prioritize getting those down.

I went shopping last weekend and while I was frugal with sales and going to more mid level stores, I realized I wasn't obsessively adding the totals and checking my bank account. It felt amazing. I scooped up my fall wardrobe all in one sitting and now I feel so much more confident and myself.
