Is 100,000 miles too much for a used car?

Completely depends on the car and how it's been treated. 200k miles is pretty common, 300k isn't all that crazy either. A quality car that's been well-maintained will easily hit those numbers. A quality car that's been treated like shit will struggle to hit 200k. A cheap car that's been treated like shit might not make 100k.

If you can find a car with service records that's huge, that's almost all the evidence you need. Otherwise I like to judge the interior condition of a car. If it's 5+ years old and looks brand new then I'm a lot more inclined to believe the seller if they tell me the car's in good shape. If the interior looks like crap then I would question how's the car's been treated. After that, if I were serious about the car, I'd get a professional to look at it and tell me what kind of shape it's in.

100k isn't a deal-breaker at all. Plenty of Hondas and Toyotas I would buy with that number of miles.
