11 year old receives Eagle - how?

What surprises me is the lack of self-awareness of the comments made on this story by all these Eagle Scouts, and not a single scout or scouter calling anyone out.

What I read on the comments here is profanity, extreme judgmentalism of another scout based on no personal knowledge of the scout in the story, unkindness, extreme lack of charity, and probably the worst examples of scouts and scouters violating the Scout Law I've ever read from a group of persons who hold scouting so dear.

No one can control the circumstances in the story, but everyone is capable of controlling thier reactions to the story. If being an eagle is supposed to result in all kinds of earned mature goodness, the comments on this post do not show such to be the case. It shows an attitude of exclusion, elitism, and just plain meanness that I am not sure belongs in scouting discussions.

I don't pass judgment on anyone here; I'm sure the commentors here are fine people. I get it; the story seems pretty incredible, and naturally people have questions. And that's legit. but why the anger? Why the hatred? Why the knee jerk condemnations and assumptions about everyone involved in the story? Not one commentor has presented anything remotely similar to evidence that would cast doubt on the legitimacy of the scout's accomplishment in the story; in fact, some do the opposite.

So be happy, be mad, be whatever, towards the 11 year old Eagle Scout. Personally, I don't care what someone in California did. If someone you don't know and have never met is able to "rob" you of your eagle experience by becoming an eagle, perhaps you should think more about what you got from your eagle experience instead of what someone else (maybe) didn't.

And maybe think about the scout law and what it says before posting on reddit again: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Maybe a scout's anonymous posts should be too.
