1500pt Tyranid List, Highlander Tournament. C&C Please. First Highlander tournament.

Fair, but theres a reason thats the same thing you see in all Tyranid list comments; we aren't Eldar/Space Marines, we don't have a versatile codex. So to be competitive, we're shoehorned into running the most effective units. Can you win with other stuff? Of course. You can technically win with anything, but it's going to be more difficult.

The Deathleaper is a poor HQ option because it's not that strong on its own, cannot join other units and does not have synapse, meaning (as it's on its own) it may spend half it's turns skipping goes unless you can babysit it with your Flyrant. The best way I've seen it used is in the formation with 5 lictors, but 99.9% of the time that's being run with 3-6 Mawlocs too.

It seems as though the majority of the people who negatively remark on a list always comes down to "Well everyone else says it's bad so it must be bad in every way" when in fact just about EVERY unit can be used in your advantage if you know how.

Apologies, I wasn't intending to be negative, you asked for C&C and as a long time 'Nids player with a large army, that's my C&C. Yes, a lot of units can be strong, but it doesn't change that Genestealers are expensive for their statline and you can almost always take something stronger, etc etc etc.

Example: "If I can get my Pyrovores behind enemy lines + give them an opportunity to flame, they might make their points back." This is true, but theres a lot of 'mights' there and nobody in their right mind should be taking Pyrovores, because for a similar cost you can run a blob of Biovores that are infinitely more reliable.

The reason you see the same comments coming up all the time is because, like it or not, there are some units in the codex that are significantly more effective.

Now, if you're running to be fluffy, or want to run certain units because you like them, that's an entirely different conversation, but most people will offer advice from a competitive point of view, and as you mentioned this is for your first tournament, I'd assume you'd want to be as strong as you can be!
