I'm a gun owner (in Canada) and I don't agree with the argument that "mental health and FBI investigations will stop this" as the only one. The whole world has those issues yet we have a fraction of the school shootings America has. This is multiple issues with the addition of an efficient tool that is readily available in almost all states, just have to lie on a government form. Shit don't even have to lie if you don't have priors.

I think Canada did it right, even though there are flaws that only a gun owner can understand, with not banning guns but rather licensing and training owners on safety and storage requirements and creating an environment where we can easily report concerns, which there usually are very few of. It's actually in our best interest for America to tighten up the gun market because the dominant majority (>80%) of the guns used in crime in Canada are traced back to the US as smuggled over the border.
