Zoo workers screened

Suspecting a possible contagion, personnel from the Junín Regional Health Directorate carried out the census and sampled 18 workers from the Huancayo zoo and some present symptoms. “Four present symptoms such as fever, flu, cough; and eight people went through sample collection that will be sent to the National Institute of Health (INS) in Lima, awaiting a confirmation or discard response, which will require a 72-hour wait," reported the deputy director of Diresa Junín, Darwin Moscoso Garcia.

Likewise, an epidemiological fence was carried out and people with symptoms began a home isolation that will last 14 days with constant monitoring. They recalled that the main risk of transmission from birds to humans is direct or indirect contact with infected animals, environments contaminated by feces, plucking, handling of infected bird carcasses and consumption of meat from infected animals.
