19-year-old dead after being shot by Madison Police Office, chief says.

Really? What makes them harder to equip than a gun?

Not sure what you mean by equip? I didn't say they are harder to carry, I said they are not effective. There is a reason the Army carries rifles and not TASERS.

Guns can jam or misfire, which would leave the intended victim just as vulnerable or worse.

The rates of Glocks jamming/misfiring is exponentially lower than ineffective less-lethal deployments.

he onus of responsibly firing the weapon is also on the wielder, which from the reports I have been reading, many civilians and officers have fired multiple shots without realizing it due to adrenaline and other factors, which inevitably leads to more deaths. But I digress.

They fired their weapons and had no recollection of doing so? Care to provide a source on that?

For the sake of this argument I'm going to assume that any object used for protection will work without hindrance and is up to the wielder to use correctly.

That is quite the "for sake of argument." For the sake of argument, I am going to assume that bicycles and automobiles have the same capacity for speed. Why would anyone buy a car?

The taser I linked above is more like a stun rod and so the "one-shot" limit does not apply, although it requires significantly closer ranges to be effective, but I imagine most assailants who are unarmed or have knives will close the gap anyway. They're not show-stoppers like a gun is, but are significantly less likely to end a human life, and that should always be top priority.

First of all that is not a TASER, it is a stun gun. TASERS work via electrical current to disrupt muscle control and stun guns work via pain compliance.

In any event, are you seriously suggesting that an officer being attacked by someone with a knife use a taser? Within certain ranges, the knife attacker has the advantage to being with. Using a TASER vs firearm is more likely to end a human life...That of the person defending themselves.

If she's an officer she should have another with her

Ok...That would be ideal. We live in a world where the citizenry does not like paying taxes. What if there are two assailants? Should all police forces roll like SWAT teams?

either can call for backup,

Yea...The fight is over before backup arrives.

either with fitness training such as martial arts

Certain force disparities cannot be overcome with martial arts experience.

know to either engage or wait for backup.

Very common situations turn violent very quickly. All officers would rather have backup when they are being violently attacked. They typically don't get a warning though.

However, with just the two of them, and equipped with martial arts training, two cans of spray, and two tazers, they should be able to put up a fight with the 6'3" guy.

I understand that what I am going to say is going to sound like a dick and prefacing it with "I don't want to sound like a dick" will make it help anymore. But, have you ever been in a fight or violent encounter in your life?

A 6'3 200lbs+ person would dominate two females in a fight. A little bit of poor luck with the TASERS and he would kill them, if he wanted to.

If they can't handle that situation in any fashion without resorting to gunning him down, they shouldn't be officers.
