Our older generation is stuck because most of them do not know how to transition properly.

The expectation is you retire when you've made enough money to do so. You should downsize your home into something smaller, with a future plan being moving into a home with assistance.

All of this cost money that is hard to spend when you spend your whole life hoarding it away.

Add in the fact young people control their parents money, and you are faced with selfish individuals who look for the best bang for their buck in terms of care for their parents.

It's especially worse in Canada where you have the choice of "free" Healthcare at the cost of taxpayers.

Some people have the attitude "why should I pay more for my parents to go to a private home when the public one is free and just as good?"

Well the answer should be, because the private one is expected to be better and your parents earned enough money over the course of their lives to spend it there.
