In 1999, I interviewed Theodore Kaczynski (the Unabomber) in prison for 20 hours. I consider his writings to be works of Critical Theory. I am now being asked to make the contents of the taped interview public.

I'm curious about what he was like on a personal level. Was he friendly? Did he come across as sane?

Yes. Completely sane. I do not believe he has schizophrenia, as was concluded by psychologists in the trial.

Also, know that with the material in your hand you have a lot of power. You can ask, for example, that they play parts say in five minute blocks, so that it can't be chopped up and quoted out of context. Or you can ask that you get a say in what goes in. I'm guessing there's not too much footage of him so you are playing from a position of strength.

No, I do not have such power, and no say, unfortunately. They want complete editorial control and the only stipulation I may be able to make is that they use only his answers and that my voice will not be heard. I also assume that the tapes will only make up a small portion of the documentary series, but I am not sure.

Either way, good luck!

Thanks.
