The 2.4 Update is an Utter Fucking Disappointment.

In my opinion there was actually more interesting Thargoid storyline-related content released through 2.3. Storyline triggers involving actual ways to find things on the surface of planets. For instance the Thargoid bases were probably the coolest thing put into the game, and they involved their own puzzle and in-game mechanic for discovering other bases. Another example was live community events, which, although they had their problems and detractors, was better than CGs (something we already had). I was expecting more of that, which wouldn't have been revolutionary but it still would have been good.

Two months in and really the only storyline content so far has been 'prequel' content...that is, showing more of what happened with INRA and Jameson. We still don't really know anything about the intentions or situation of the Thargoids, don't know anything about potential factions of the Thargoids, don't really know what the 'bases' are ('bases' is just a vague guess), the function of barnacles, etc. None of the systems permit locked for development have been opened. Many of them have been permit locked since initial release...I mean you can go back and read threads from 2014 about how Polaris being permit locked is exciting because there will soon be new content. It's kind of sad actually.

It almost seems as if all of this INRA/Jameson prequel stuff should have been in 2.3 leading up to 2.4, where upon release we then discover Thargoid surface bases. It would have made more sense, and it would have made early 2.4 more 'oomphy' with interesting content that I think people wouldn't be complaining as much.

There has to be more to 2.4, but oh boy did they mess up the pacing for a 'story' release.
