I live near DC so it honestly didn't matter, I almost went away for the rest of my life. I'm a tiny chick and I look white. I was locked up as "high security risk" with the suspected murderers. Don't matter your name or race though, if you're poor the system will make you poorer. Also my prosecutor was a black guy and he's the one that offered me a reasonable deal. My lawyer was...meh? I had no confidence in him tbh, that prosecutor saved me though. Officers in the jail were ASSHOLES. As soon as I get in there, they were making fun of me! Said, "Well you shouldn't be trying to blow shit up!" Fuck those guys laughing at people at their most vulnerable. Unless you're RICH, it's guilty until proven innocent. My dark brothers and sisters undeniably get it worse, but I don't think my race was helping me out any. APPARENTLY being christian or a drug addict gets you lots of special privileges in there though, THAT made me extremely angry. Also, all the books they provide were either religious, in spanish, or third-grade chapter books.

Anyway, not agreeing with you or arguing. It's an aspect I've pondered a lot as well. It probably would have been worse if I was darker but I'll honestly never know.
