20 TIPS for all those who are stuck and want to rank up!

Interesting, some good points and some I'd like to add / amend - feel free to ignore, ridicule, disagree or discuss:

  1. I'd say vary your kick-offs; keep em solid, sure, in line with the ball and your goal, but sticking with the same one can lead to your opponents predicting you - even if you're solo queuing, vary the kick-offs you see your team mates doing

  2. Sure, awareness and support, the 2 keys aspects of good team work - getting there however can be a long path. You can't train or practice it, only in game. Reflection through replays can help, viewing other players (twitch) who are a bit above your level can also help

  3. More so be wary of doing this, it is not necessarily a bad thing: just use your camera swivel to check your team mate is ready, conversely, be ready to push the middle when your team mate has possession and is moving out - support, support, support

  4. Sure, so hard to do in the heat of the moment, but is an extremely valuable tool, if you have the awareness and the reactions to take advantage

  5. & 6. It all comes down to decision making, so difficult to master and everybody gets this wrong from time to time. What balls you go for or do not will also change depending on the playlist. All I'd add is be ready to change your mind, rotate out of the challenge if it's not going to work, limit those attacks / pressures which are 'all-in', with long recovery times.

  6. Poor boost management is one of my own worst failings and what makes it hard to change is that it's subconscious; one way that has helped me a little is to change the pathing of my rotations, picking up smaller pads instead of deep rotations for the 100% - the added benefit is you'll tend to be closer to the centre, closer to the action and the variables of the play

  7. Play smart, yes, but altering what is working can be dangerous - I'd just say limit the amount of lower percentage pays / movements if you're up and the clock is ticking down.

  8. Blame? I agree, no point. But, if my random team mate screws up, I'll note it mentally and should a similar play develop, I'll be a little more cautious, more a defensive than offensive support.

  9. Don't be a pussy, sure, but I think a lot of those occasions occur from the player drawing from previous experience / games, etc. Everyone misses, you do too, though you may rationalise it to 'protect' yourself, stripping back those lies to reveal the basic hard truth, you cocked up, helps far more: acknowledge the mistake, learn from it and move on.

  10. Stay calm, sure, but some players work best on this edge, so again it comes down to awareness.

  11. Sure

  12. Or perhaps change the playlist, or go back and do a quick training session - reset your focus and if you feel good, try again, if not, give it a rest

  13. Don't over-commit: or at least if you do so, ensure you are on point and have defensive support and where possible always picture your landing for the quickest recovery

  14. Scoreboard - I only really use this to see if an opponent is popping off - I'll tend to give them a little bit more respect on their plays and take any realistic opportunity to put them off their game: a good bump / demo can help

  15. Yeah, recognise when you have lost your focus - it can vary within one person and could take a few games or quite a few, just be honest with yourself

  16. I disagree for 2's / 3's, unless you are close to the pros in terms of skill; I'd suggest looking up players who are slightly better than you - progression is slow. What can be handy watching players significantly higher skilled than you is the 'options', most you will not be able to follow, but there will be a good amount of occasions where the pros will perform a solid move you had not considered in that situation and that you can actually perform most of the time.

  17. I'd just say treat demos as a surgeon's knife, not a bludgeoning club: the oppositions attack fails, your team mates break out on attack - an opposition player is out of position, probably low on boost, an easy demo target - no, leave him to wallow and rotate back slowly, don't demo and send him straight back into the defense with boost (just be wary of him behind you as you push out to support the attack).

  18. Freestyle in a ranked game, no need, however practising a bit of freestyle in casual or training packs doesn't hurt, good variety and helps with aerial car positioning.

  19. We all fuck up from time to time, the game would be boring if everything was perfection
