2000 Subaru Forester Dynastar Edition

The main things your tech should look for: * Rust can be a major issue. (if exists make sure to check metal brake lines) * If an Automatic, make sure the trans fluid is OK and the AWD works. Many of these cars have never had a transmission service and some customers are even unaware when the AWD quits. I don't know why. Always check for AWD functionality. * Struts (These are a very expensive repair) * Wheel bearings (Another expensive repair) * CV Joints and rear diff temperature after running. Should not be hot. * Check engine light working? * Always get a carfax

Most dealers will do a timing belt only if the water pump or oil pump needed servicing. What they wont do is spend an extra dollar on new idlers. This is a huge mistake. They should be replaced with the timing belt. Many idlers will "zzzzing" at higher RPMs and it will sound like a bearing on the A/C or belt tensioner noise (only under heavy accelerations). If you accelerate and hear this noise you will need to have them replaced. The rest of the car is pretty easy if something goes wrong.

Stolen from another website:

The Dynastar was a very low production, skier-oriented package offered only in the fall of 2000. This package included the following functional and cosmetic upgrades to the base L model Forester:

Raised suspension (about 1" higher than the base Forester) Light silver upper/darker silver lower paint scheme with Dynastar badges Heated front seats Heated mirrors Running boards Roof rack crossbars Leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob Keyless entry

The L model Forester had fog lights, cruise control, reclining rear seats, front map lights and rear drum brakes.
