2008 borns are more gatekept than people realize.

Sure, yeah, I’d say 88-92. It was my concept of the 80s. 92 was 90s, but so much was still late 80s: music, style, etc, but then 92 really hit as the 90s.

93-97 had a 90s feel that was a little darker, but still the same. Not much of any difference. Just leaned more into Gen x mentality.

98-2000, just more late 90s.

I, in my anecdotal, empiric evidence: parts of 1999 then through 2002 (most all of 2000-2002) was what I personally call the “Claire’s years”.

That store in the mall called Claire’s?

Not in that it was popular, but that style and stuff got too cute and stupid and glitter for no reason. 2000-2002 got stupid looking. I hate it. It was the exact opposite of grunge and 90s rock many of us held dearly in those days.

Much larger difference in 2003-2004... more like 2004-forward, when social stuff on the internet happened. It was basic and no one considered it anything more than average.

But basically Desert Storm 2 happened. My friend from high school, Frank, was killed in 2004, as an army engineer who just happened to get near and IED.

2010 was really when cell phones were something you had to pay attention to. Texting became larger... after this, I have a much more difficult time see differences. I turned 30 in 2014.
