I have a 2012 Compass with around 130k on it (had it for around ~3 years) and recently had to replace the transmission in it. The transmission part alone is close to $4,000, while the labor is only around $400. I actually thought about junking it and getting a late 1990s Toyota or Honda to replace it, but decided to get it fixed because it is in great shape otherwise (the tech who did the job said I could probably get another 100k out of it). Additionally, in the area where I live (Central NJ) late 1990s Toyota's or Hondas still go for close to $5,000 even if they are only in fair condition so replacing my transmission was a cheaper option for me at this point.
