2019 Is a Sensitive Year for China. Xi Is Nervous.

We keep talking about the China government losing power.

In my opinion, that's close to impossible unless an uprising happens. They are controlling the internet exactly because the internet is the biggest possible source of such an uprising.

Also, most people really do not care. China is the greatest it's ever been. Until the economy collapses like people keep predicting, everything is going swimmingly here.

The young people are not complaining about censorship or that they live in a dictatorship. They have jobs and they have money. More importantly, they were told (and rightfully so) that their country has been looked down on and bullied their whole life. This has suddenly turned around and they are now a superpower.

Whatever extra freedom they want, they can just make money and go enjoy it overseas. Do you know how many average vacations a newly graduated whitecollar goes on? Two. That's probably equal or more than many top countries.

Things are stable and people have jobs. That's what they care about. The censorship/government/etc are all just first-world problems to them and not worth mentioning as long as they have the money to afford the new AmericanChinese Dream.
