In 2022 Honduras changed it's flag from dark blue to turquoise to represent Mayan heritage

Not true. The flag of Guatemala is officially listed as Maya blue. That is definitely where that Honduran MP got the idea to change the flag of Honduras to that color. However, that incident appears to be separate from the official change of the Honduras flag in 2022 because it was actually changed to turquoise. If you look up the flag of Guatemala you will see that Maya blue is a distinct light blue color in comparison to the new turquoise color of the flag of Honduras. Historically, the flag of Guatemala was listed as sky blue, which was distinct from all the other Central American nations’ use of dark blues in their flags. At some point Guatemala designated the color of its flag as Maya blue, which probably went largely unnoticed because of how similar Maya blue and sky blue are. Nevertheless, Guatemala is the only nation on earth to use the color Maya blue. It makes sense as Guatemala is the homeland of the Maya people, with nearly half the population of 18.8 million being ethnic Maya who still maintain the traditions and speak the Mayan languages. The rest of the population are predominantly considered Mestizos, although the vast majority of them have mostly Maya DNA (or are even 100% Maya genetically) but are just assimilated into the larger Latino culture.
