The thing about the drinking is that it's very much a societal problem here in the UK. We have a massive drinking culture. It's abnormal to be someone who doesn't drink. So, the main reason he drinks every night is because he sees friends every night to distract himself, and then ends up drinking. I mean, he still does even if he sees no one, just not as much. At the moment his main drinking excuse is the social drinking one. I've made him aware of my feelings, I mean, I like a drink. We have nice times going to bars together, but I'm not comfortable with the "oh, I had a bad day I need a drink" as that could lead dark places with someone who has mental health issues - he knows this.

That's... Actually a great idea... I don't know why I didn't think of it! (Probably because it's winter right now, haha) I will suggest that tonight when I see him! He's a great swimmer too, so he'll get a kick out of watching me fail/trying to teach me. Maybe I'll suggest it as "can we start going so you can teach me?"
