20s American make Visiting Delhi for a couple months. Advice?

Firstly this trip will broaden your horizon. There is so much diversity in the city that it's hard to summarize what all to see but I shall try.

I would advise that you stay in slightly wealthier areas for the majority of your trip, especially the start (in southern Delhi but don't go too far from the center if you plan on traveling around).

The touristy stuff is definitely something you should do as you are gonna be there for a long time. So India gate, red fort, Chandni Chowk, Qutub Minar, akshardham, jama masjid, Bangla Sahib, humayun Tomb, lodhi garden, Lotus temple, Connaught place, Hauz khas village, Dilli haat, Sarojini nagar, Mughal garden, a couple museums etc. I would advise not to go to more than a couple of these places in a single day.

How to get around? The best and cheapest way for most commutes is the metro the routes are fairly easy to understand, cheap and convenient. You also get to see a lot of real Delhi people doing real delhi things. Uber/Ola and auto rickshaws are also fairly convenient and cheap if you got dollars lol. Auto rickshaws will try to get more money out of you so be kinda careful although it would still seem cheap to you.

Some obscure recommendations: Just take the metro to random stations and walk around lol. There are plenty of nice college campuses you can explore. Do visit other cities in the ncr region as each of them has many attractions. Watch some movies in Indian theatres. There are plenty of luxury restaurants which you can try out. I personally love the Qutub Minar region which has some high end places to eat and kinda party. I know I might sound a bit elitist I apologize.

Spending the entire 2 months in Delhi might be a slight overkill as there are so many regions in north India (let alone the rest) you might want to check out.
