I (22M) can't talk to my parents (55, 65) about finances in terms that make sense to me

I agree with your logic. But I know what I cost pretty well (I have their monthly expenses and I frequently help them with money). So I know what is fair, and they will even agree with my calculations on the prices of things. Whenever I come to a conclusion about what I should pay then, they're just like "no, but I feel like we probably missed something in our budget" without having anything specific to back that claim up. They've also shut down conversation based only on the reason that 'this is not how a family decides these things'.

It seems totally irrational to me - I'm hoping others recognize this sort of behavior and can explain how to work with it.
