I Kind of like this attitude too. As a couple one can have friends together and both can have seperate friends. They don't nessecary need to be mixed up. But on occassions like a birthday, your wedding etc they can be mixed up.

The problem I saw over the last few decades is that if eg a friend of yours starts a relation with a friend of your partner.... a few years pass by... and then they break up badly. Consequenses: two people less come to your birthday or wedding anneversery... and that happened a lot over the years.

We seperated friends before and now we do this again cause it sucks if your friends start fighting eachother....

But ofc it could have turned out differently...both ways are ok ofc
