I [23M] start to do well in life whenever I'm not talking to my best friend [23M]

At 23, I definitely did not have time to talk to friends and play games at night. I had a 9-5, worked out after work, had dinner etc. It sounds like it’s time to set some real boundaries about how much time you have to hang out with him. Maybe for a little bit on the weekends, but otherwise it just sounds like unproductive time together and could have a negative impact on your life going forward.

This happens as you get older. My best friend from HS dropped out of college, never stopped partying, and has been in and out of rehab and getting fired from jobs for the last 20 years. I still talk to her, but I had to really distance myself from her long ago or she’d have dragged me down with her. I still care about her, but sometimes you just go different directions from childhood friends and the dynamic of the relationship changes.
