24 immigrants have died in ICE custody during the Trump administration

Comments like these make me wonder if people remember that illegal immigrants are violating our laws and if they know what the CBP’s role is.

The numbers speak for themselves. There is no large scale human rights violation going on at the border. There are a ton of people, here illegally, and there are not enough resources for all of them. Should we be deploying a battalion of doctors to the border? For what reason? There are so few deaths as it is. They seem to be doing a pretty solid job in that regard.

While not an endorsement, the law is there (in theory) to equalize treatment for those who violate it. Whether you’re a hardened criminal or a single mom deep in poverty, until judgement is levied your treatment is supposed to be the same. Do non-Americans here illegally deserve better treatment than us?

Why is this suddenly not the case at the border? I think, generally, people in both sides of the aisle are blinded by their impotent rage at the other side. They aren’t thinking clearly. They want to wiggle blame out wherever they can, even when it makes no sense whatsoever.

We must certainly, as a nation, decide where the needle lies between security crisis and humanitarian crisis at the souther border. But I can say with certainty that they are not mutually exclusive.
