$2500-2900 Gaming Rig, US

  • You're thinking too generationally. The x80 ti is generally released long after the x80. Well over a year in the case of the 700 series, and 10 months in the case of 900. On average, that's actually longer than gap between the x80 ti and the next generation. It'd be more accurate to say that dual x80 ti is a bad buy because the next x80 always smokes it. I wouldn't say either one, because if you're always worried about what's coming next, you'll never feel good buying anything at all.

  • I don't think anyone needs to be told that PCI wifi is a better deal. OP specifically said he wanted it on the motherboard if it fit into the budget (indicating he's aware that it's more expensive but prefers it anyway), so I did just that.

  • RAM frequency does impact some games. It can have an extremely noteworthy effect when the CPU is pushed hard, which I suspect would actually be more common with 1440p144 than with 4k. I think this is a really reaching nitpick, and it's certainly not a good place to save $10 on a $3000 rig.

  • I'm a fan of the 1TB SSD as well. It's not strictly better than a 500GB/1TB setup though.

  • I can also always get behind more headroom on the PSU. 850w and 1000w get two thumbs up at me. But 750w actually has a good amount of headroom of its own. Judging from the TPD, system draw under full SLI load is probably going to be around 500w, tops.

  • Triple whammy: I also prefer 1440p144 over 4k/60fps. The latter is just more mainstream and was the first thing that came to mind when OP made his post.

But some of those last few are kind of subjective, aren't they? Same with Corsair vs Cooler Master mechanicals. And build quality is actually considered a huge strong point for the K70. I like the Rapid-i as well, but not everyone is okay with tenkeyless, and I think very few people would consider the Rapid-i solidly above the K70.

I don't mean to be so defensive, but you replied to me and made direct corrections to my build. I can definitely take corrections, but many of yours were highly questionable, like calling dual x80 a flat out bad buy, belittling one of OP's specific requests, or even trying to cut out something that has real potential to increase performance just to save $10. The rest were entirely matters of opinion.

Except for the PSU; you can never go wrong with more headroom.
