I 26(f) am thinking of applying for a job & would love some information.

Definitely visit for a bit before you move unless you are easily mobile. Unlike LA, nyc, Boston, philly etc where there is plenty of reliable information, most of what you will see about midsize cities is misinformation based on their PR departments (whether it is to woo amazon or make another listicle)...

That said, Pgh is an acquired taste and not for everyone. Of course that could be said about any place. But there must be a reason that while old backwaters like Raleigh, Minneapolis, Austin and even Cinci are growing, pgh is declining.

I’ve lived in my fair share (12 for >2 years) of American cities and if I had to pick one word to describe pgh overall it would be “mediocre”. Almost nothing from giant eagle to the traffic to the outdoor activities, the food, or the music available is the worst... it’s all just average to below average. Even the weather... upstate ny is arguably worse, just as cloudy and 10x more snow... but it’s pretty mediocre in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh scores high on some livability rankings because of an outsized number of museums, libraries, and things like a ballet per capita.. but for practical purposes I don’t see how these are most peoples priorities when picking a place to live.
