My friend's laptop got bricked two days ago, along with years and years worth of client files. Her daughter also couldn't do schoolwork since her files were also on the same machine.

I spent a day and managed to retrieve all their files and documents, and reinstalled Windows on a new drive. They didn't lose anything and they didn't have to pay anything.

I've done this kind of service probably close to 50 times over the last several years. When you know how to fix computers, I guess everyone starts bringing in their broken computers. I've never charged for this either, since it's more like a hobby and pretty easy for me to do. The only downside is it can be time consuming, but I feel good knowing I've helped saved people tens of thousands of dollars.
