30 people getting coffee vs. 30 people getting coffee

Ever seen the lineup at a coffee place near a subway stop? People walking and taking mass transit, there will still be a line that at times will block other foot traffic.

But also, the line moves, people aren't stopping and sitting at a table, the coffee place serves way more people in the same span of time as that cafe would.

Obviously car culture has issues but the top picture is not just showing what happens with cars in the picture. People commuting stop to get coffee, a lot of people means a line, lines can be disruptive when they grow past the space allocated to them, but the model of service allows a lot more people to be served more quickly.
