Again, just different circumstances and allowances. If your salaried position keeps you at work 12+ hours a day, but you can’t quit because you can’t afford your family’s health care without it, then you don’t have time for second jobs and you can’t just switch your life up on a whim. I’m not saying it’s impossible. I’m saying every economics or finance student would tell you Dave Ramsey’s advice is ineffective for truly impoverished family’s. His advice on housing, for example, is literally impossible for over half the country. Both rent and mortgages are not going to be found at 1/3 of someone’s income at the level we’re discussing. Only opting for a 10-year mortgage is equally laughable. There’s some things that just have to be ridden out before they just get better.
