35 Fellow Cops Finish the Treehouse a Slain Officer Was Building For Daughter

Wouldn't it also be painting a false equivalency if you only mention cops mowing down civilians in the streets?

If your entire life's goal is to win internet points and nothing else, yes.

If you're a police chief tasked with upholding the integrity of an entire department, it's a moot point.

As a team, you are only as good as your weakest contributor in the eyes of everyone that you serve... In most professions, there's a sense that because you're a professional, you are more accountable than your customers. You're a trained professional. You know the deal.

If you don't, that's not a reflection on the customers/community your team serves... that's a reflection on you, your manager, your team, and your organization.

Dallas PD didn't get a better reputation by complaining that the good things don't get recognized. Unless you're a narcissist, that data isn't doing you any favors... it's not telling you where you need to improve. And improvement never stops, unless you're content to rest on your laurels.

But you cannot be part of a high performing, high stress, high visibility job/organization if your tendency is to pat yourself on the back.

You can't look a person in the eye and say, "Well, yeah I know I shot your son but bad shit happens." The 300 other lives you might have saved that year in other incidents doesn't bring back that life you took. Ever.
