I can respect that, but I am curious who you are afraid would trace those emails back to individuals and then punish them? I want to make it clear that I don’t disagree with you deciding not to sign up for that reason. You’re being careful and that’s smart. But whenever I hear people who are afraid of our government keeping a ‘citizen scoreboard’ I want to hear more. I think people overestimate how well our government actually works. The manpower is really thin, and not in lockstep. For example if Agency X determines you were signed up for a constitutionally protected demonstration and wanted to punish you, half of everyone in Agency X would leak it or kill it in the cradle. Then if they managed to get on the same page and reach out to Agency Y to bother you in some tangible way, they’d say fuck off, we’re busy.
