Along with what jack has to say....this is something ive criticized about a lot about the liberal left...my own friends included. First let me say I consider myself part of the liberal left, I voted for Obama twice. Will probably go left later this year with say a 98% chance. When I say stuff like im about to say I always get called Right...for some reason when you show compassion toward another side you suddenly are a part of them.
So heres my warning: All the ridicule for Trumps followers from those who have a good life and the system has worked for them and or the system looks like it will continue encourage a better life for them. They say Trump supporters are "stupid" for supporting him.....What if I called you stupid...how would you react? How would you feel? Ive heard people call them rats....human beings calling other human beings rats....you know where that happens Stalingrad circa 1943 What if I called you a rat how would you feel. As Jack says you are not helping but dehumanizing them.........You are only raising the stakes.
In a system where everyone votes you need to have compassion for those that have been "left behind" by the system you need to have programs to minimize poverty and reward work and make them feel good in what they do in life. Think of it this way....when you have nothing you have nothing to loose by shaking up the system.....those in America that have been well off dont seem understand that. Yes, college liberal you are well to do. You have an education,that you are so proud of, now use it and be compassionate.
The bottom quintile who has worked hard and has good habits and has tried to get educated who are still living on the edge and has been their entire life.....the bottom quintile (25M households, not people, households) is only making $25k a year....you call them "rats" I say just trying to put food on the table for themselves and their children.
