5800x Temps

Any synthetic benches. Again I know this isn’t real world use but its still a concern. It’s instant. It’s behaviour I havnt seen with a 3600x, 2600x 1600 or 2700x.

I’ve used PBO with the above, overclocked and under volted. I have a fairly good understand of Ryzen and it’s boosting behaviours and temp spikes. This is something different I’m sure.

I’m also mad about air cooling, I have a machined custom 16 heat pipe dual tower heatsink of my own design driven by Noctua fans. It’s great. The 3600x before it sat at 24-28 idle, with my ambient at 20.

More interestingly, an issue I’ve seen elsewhere is when data is being written (e.g. downloads) the temps will climb to the 60s. I to have experienced this with I/O operations. Certainly not normal behaviour.

Maybe an issue with motherboards and the voltage they apply to the chip or the voltage the chip is using during boost.

As it stands the power draw doesn’t correlate with the usage, specially in relation to the 5600x. How much of this is by design, squeezing those cores onto the die and how much is by bios/chip firmware error remains to be proved.

I’m hoping this post being out there will add to the deluge of posts I’ve seen on the matter, and maybe AMD or mobo manufactures can issue updates.
