Is the 5DS/R still a sensible buy?

I have the R5 and 5DSR, and as others have said when you can be deliberate with your composition, exposure, and set up on a tripod it’s still the option I go with. Image quality is better still than the R5 with the same lens, unless you need to push shadows. If exposed properly, it has better detail and color. That said, when I’m hiking or out walking, I grab the R5. It’s lighter, has way better AF, IBIS eliminates some of the tripod need, and it has the flippy screen if you’d want to get creative. It’s also the one I go to for portrait work with the eye AF. Makes life easier. For the price I got the 5dsr (950 used) it doesn’t really make sense to get rid of it. Things awesome and still my favorite camera regardless of limitations.
