Plus there is the geographical aspect as well. In gang/organized crime killings, outside of rare instances of them happening outside of the gangs territory , essentially everyone that doesn’t live in that neighborhood will literally never be affected by the shootings. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a gang issue that needs to be solved, or that it isn’t tragic for the non criminal neighbors that get caught up in the violence of course. But for like 99% of the country they’ll never be impacted by it because as long as you don’t move to active gang neighborhoods you’ll be good.

Mass shootings like El Paso or Dayton are much more newsworthy because it could obviously happen anywhere , and for a lot people, the thought of “what if it happens at the festival in my town next” is far scarier than a bunch of gangbangers killing other gangbangers in the hood.
