Ours do this too, but we have two so it's much easier. You just need to get one playing and the other one starts to follow suit. Next thing you know, they are wrestling and zooming about the place like crazy things. If you can add another young cat to your family, then that's likely to be the best solution. If not, I would suggest trying out going for supervised walks outside with the cat on a harness and leash. You look ridiculous, but the cats love it (at least our two do) and they get all ramped up by the smells and sounds, then when we go home they pass out right away. Lots of toys and interactive play with their favourite human(s) will help too.
