90's kids, what's something you did when you were in school that youths of today wouldn't understand?

Late to this thread so will probably be repeating some of what others have said, but anyway.

Being able to play on the streets (we lived in a suburb) until pretty late or until we got called in for supper.

Having neighbours that watched over all of us kids, whether we were theirs or not. One parent or a couple always had to be off doing something, the other neighbours would be made aware and take over to 'keep an eye' on us.

Said neighbours being allowed to spank you if you were doing something dangerous/damaging someone's property/just being a naughty little shit. Your parents going over and saying 'thank you' to the neighbours, and making you apologise. No lawsuits, no insults, no feuds. Plus another spanking when you got home for being a pain in the ass to both your parents and the neighbours.

Knowing the people that live around you pretty well and dropping in to borrow a cup of sugar/flour or whatever. No one ever asked for it back, it was just understood reciprocally that if you need whatever it is, and can't be assed to go to the shops, come to my house.

Crying with your neighbours when a loved one dies, and helping out with yard work, cleaning the pool, cleaning the house etc until people are back on their feet, whether it's because of a loss or because of illness/just having a bad run of cards.

There was a 'today you, tomorrow me' kind of attitude which was really great. Nowadays out of my four neighbours I only ever engage with one. And that's only because she's getting on and has had a couple of break ins so my husband and I keep a close watch on her.

Sad. So, I guess what I miss most is neighbourliness. A sense of community.
