This is why i love SSDI (social security disability insurance)

people who cannot find meaningful work due to any medical/physical limitation. will get disability until they can find some meaningful work.

so people who lost their jobs, can take student loans to cover their re training expenses.

people who lost their jobs and do to some medical condition(depressed because they have no job) are un able to get disabiltiy.

there also is unemployment insurance. in my state when the iron mine workers lost their jobs. the state extended their unemployment checks for 2 years. so that they could go to school and re train find new jobs.

so we already have enough social programs in place to handle a near unlimited number of workers losing their jobs.

also the thing about everyone losing their jobs to automation. the federal reserve will keep printing money to increase spending. this will give, if there are no real jobs, the federal government unlimited spending to give people any jobs. like we say in the housing bubble. banks lent money to people to buy houses even though the people had no income. the people then defaulted on their mortgages. the feds gave the banks lots of money so that the banks did not collapse. and then had forclousre programs to give people money to prevent them from entering foreclosure. basically millions of people got free money to buy a house with!

tl:dr; the people who have medical programs and lose their jobs get Social security disability, the people who lose their jobs who are not disabled get unemployment until they finish school and can find a job. the people who are too poor and have no marketable skills will be given money they can spend to hopefully create jobs.
