Aaaand John Kelly reveals himself as a straight-up racist.

I'm glad at least some one realizes this.

As a military officer myself, Kelly isn't wrong. Looking at most of these comments there seems to be very strong polarization. A man can have held himself honorably in certain, even important ways, and still be deeply flawed. Rommel was a highly respectable commander and leader, but a part of the Nazi party. MacArthur was a stellar general but so egotistical he literally cost the US 20,000 lives and half the Korean peninsula.

I'd even say that a part of his point is likely that people demonizing the opposition is only going to further divide the country and potentially lead to loss of life.

If you can't see thats part of his message and only saw that he's a racist because he said a man of the morally wrong side of a war had, himself as a person, conducted himself honor on the battlefield you may want to take a deep breath and look at how you're seeing the world. Because your likely part of the reason calm and respectful discourse has continued to degrade in the last few decades.
