Why is AB/EDM/CAL's subreddit seems to be very pro NDP, but UCP won?

The conservatives are the dynasty because of the descendants of homesteaders. My belief is that the Canadian state needed to remove indigenous people from the land in order to use the resources for for economic base. The homestead act gave land to mostly white people and put and kept native folks on reserves. It needed and still needs someone to hold the land so it can't revert back to indigenous ownership.

As you move forward through the generations, after farming quit being profitable, the industry of maintaining and servicing the resource extraction became the lifestyle of the descendants who are now the land owning class. Any change to environmental laws is a threat to the care taker position they have inherited.

High school drop out rates mean that these folks didn't plan to do anything else, and so it's a direct threat to their way of being. Their farms have slushy been sold to big ag business, but they can't seem hard done by because they sold. they vote for which ever party both puts the blame on environmentalists and puffs their egos up at the same time.
