Abby Russell contradicts herself on women in games media

Yeah, someone can be disinterested in the conversation, that isn't hypocrisy.

But she does kind of set herself up for failure at the start.

"This industry is so male dominated. You just need to open your eyes and see the diverse people who are already there.

But this is my first exposure to this industry. Although I have experience with video content creation, as far as video games go I'm a complete novice."

Abby is a decent presenter, but she was a diversity hire because GB is a total sausage fest. Her never being part of the hobby before hiring is important because it shows that, when GB went to increase its representation of women on their team, the pool of female candidates was very small. So small in fact, that the best person for the job was someone who wasn't even into the hobby to begin with.

That isn't to say that there aren't female gamers, or that we should just wash the whole industry with guys. But it shows that the representation of people in the industry is generally reflective of the people who are into that hobby to begin with.

Which is, surprise surprise, guys.
