Aboriginal educator here. AMA

Collectively as a society, how could we better improve recpetion and acceptance of the modern day education system amongst Aboriginal communities?

My current understanding (and please correct me if I am wrong or ignorant) is that a lot of families, especially those out rurally, are not the biggest fans of sending their children to whitefella schooling and wish to maintain their traditional/cultural teachings (and rightly so) within the mob. Considering past approaches to education were well and truly horrific, this apprehension is most definitely valid.

Rightly or wrongly, the pace at which society is moving forward is not going to slow down and an education inline with the current world is definitely going to put any person in a better position to approach the world.

How can we continue to preserve Aboriginal culture and traditional education whilst preparing the future youth for the world that they will be living in? And is it culturally appropriate to integrate non-aboriginal children into the teachings of this land?
