About Amazon...

Well let's look for second the main Amazon hubs in the US are as follows.

Austin, TX Cambridge, MA Cupertino, CA Detroit, MI Irvine, CA Minneapolis, MN New York, NY Pittsburgh, PA San Francisco, CA Seattle, WA Tempe, AZ

So by your own admission people working for Amazon wouldn't be able to live in San Francisco, and New York, and let's throw in Cupertino, Irvine, and Seattle in there as well. So that's 5 of 11 where it is unfeasible for the lowest paid Amazon workers to live in or near the area where they work.

When you really break it down, it turns out that Detroit is the only place where the lowest paid Amazon workers can live comfortably, and in the rest they will be roughly comfortable as an adult or a household of two making the same wage. However, they will not be able to afford to have children, as you pointed out, they will not be able to purchase a home, and they will not be able to save for retirement.

So, at the end of the day, yes you are correct in saying that they will be making a "Living wage" in that they will be living. However, they will only be living, and not truly enjoying their life.
