He didn’t become addicted until a few years into our marriage. He hurt himself on the job and was prescribed Percocets, and the doctor was a little pill happy and gave him a few months worth for a relatively minor injury. The doctor also failed to ween him off so that he wouldn’t have bad either, and instead just cut him off. So no, definitely didn’t marry an addict. That sort of thing is quite common today, people becoming dependent on opiates from doctors and instead of them correctly weening them off, they just cut them off. It’s a major factor in the opiate crisis and a reason why our society is failing. I’m sure I’m not alone here in being impacted by this.
