I don't think the person you're replying to is trying to imply that they are against these messages, it's just that the Rust community is generally already well informed on these issues. I think painting them as someone rambling about a crazy conservative is an unfair critique of a well thought out point, even if you don't agree with it. And while no reasonable person is implying that acknowledging and standing with these marginalized people is bad, there's definitely a point to be made that these political messages could be used to raise awareness for situations that aren't getting as much discussion or provide links not only to educate yourself on what is happening but how you can help. With the Rust blog being in a position of being able to reach a wide audience I think it's fair criticism that they should be doing more than just acknowledging these events.
