About those lose plans to flee the city for rural areas (aka the woods or sticks.)

Folks that live in urban centers vastly over-estimate their ability to get out of their urban center. I'm in the DC suburbs. Naturally I associate with like-minded folk. I'm a bit amazed at how they feel they'll know 'when to punch it' when it comes to leaving town. You won't. There's almost never a clear-cut marker. And the area virtually shuts down when we get snow, and it's a nightmare when it comes to rush hour. On 9/11, people were in cars for 18 hours to get home. During the '11 blizzard, people abandoned cars on the highways. Planning to flee is, IMO, a shitty plan, unless you're in hurricane country. You're not going to call it fast enough, and if you do and you magically get out past the traffic and road blocks of abandoned vehicles, then you're going to run into the small town folks who don't take kindly to outsiders in an emergency. See Delaware beach communities during this pandemic and fighting with folks that literally own vacation houses for details.
