I absolutely love the idea, style and flow of Looper but the biggest problem is that all the plot holes give me a headache.

Look at it this way. It's a benifit to kill yourself, because of the awful consequences to yourself if you do not. That hazard is not there if someone else kills you.

Time travel is a thought experiment, not real. in this experiment you get to see the consequences of the life you have chosen. It's about the importance of empathy is breaking cycles of abuse.

Johnson tends to favour exploring character and emotion through sci-fi, and is less interested in the logical side of it. It comes up in the Last Jedi as well, the story is driven by the emotional responses of the characters, less by plot, which is in my opinion given far too much creedence as part of a story.
