Abuse is Abuse

Why not, you needed one. Someone or something showed you that abuse is wrong no matter what gender. Doesn't matter if you learned this lesson over night or gradually, as a child or as an adult, you were exposed to the right information for you to form this idea and it stuck.

And most people got the lesson not to abuse women. It's the villains roughing up their SOs, not the heroes, and it's always played as seriously as possible... except in a sitcom when the husband tapes over the wedding tape, then he gets a few light slaps and the audience gets a laugh.

So you have an entire culture seeing one message about how abuse is bad, and another message that abuse is funny, and the denominator is gender. So why would they question it? But you can't expect people to know better unless they were taught better.

I'm not asking you to tolerate it or just let it slide, call it out when you see it, but don't write them off just yet.
