Actors of Reddit, what is the hardest scene you ever had to do and how was it made harder or easier by the actions of your fellow cast, director, crew or other creative?

I played Pip in Neil Bartletts adaptation of Great Expectations not too long ago. There’s a small speech at the end which is pretty sad.

From the first day of rehearsing it the director said “don’t change a thing!”

I don’t like doing the same thing every night and thought it made the ending terrible if I played it that way but I took her advice and did it the same way every day.

When it came to opening night I was so ready to do it as I’d been doing it the same way since day one.

After the speech I exited through the audience and there wasn’t a dry eye in the theatre.

Directors know what they’re doing! (Most of the time!)
